Science and Technology Ministers discuss COVID-19 pandemic

Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Giriraj Mani Pokharel has spoken of the need of opening ‘centre for excellence’ in each State on one particular subject for the advancement of science and technology. He suggested that such centres should be opened in coordination of the Central government and the State governments.

Minister Pokharel floated this idea in a virtual meeting Friday with the ministers looking after the science and technology portfolio in all the seven states. The ministers discussed on ways of advancing science and technology sector in the country in the coming days.

Describing science and technology as the infrastructure of infrastructure, Minister Pokharel stressed that the governments at all levels should ramp up investment in the science and technology sector’s development through coordination and without any duplication.

The ministers of the State governments suggested holding such meetings on a regular basis as it provided the opportunity for learning and sharing the works carried out in the sector in each state.
Former Science and Technology Minister Ganesh Shah, who is the coordinator of the committee constituted by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to provide suggestions on ways of facing COVID-19 pandemic, and the coordinators of six sub-committees under it, briefed the meeting about the works carried out by the committee and the sub-committees.
The sub-committee convenors are Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) Vice Chancellor Dr Sunil Babu Shrestha, Prof Dr Ramesh Maskey, NAST academic assembly member Dinesh Bhuju and Science and Technology Secretary Dr Sanjaya Sharma.
The State government ministers shared about the works carried out in the science and technology field by the state governments.RSS
