Festival helps to streamline economic activities: PM Deuba

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that festivals help boost economic activities. Inaugurating the 8th Tanahu Festival organized by the Tanahu Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Damauli from today, he said that the fair organized at the local level would help in reviving the economy hit by COVID-19.

Stating that the fair would be meaningful for the socio-economic development of the society, Prime Minister Deuba said, “It is good for the economy that the fair, which has been suspended for two years by the pandemic, is being held.” He said that the self-confidence of Nepalis has increased as every Nepali has been vaccinated against COVID-19.
Prime Minister Deuba said that the festival should help in the promotion and marketing of locally produced goods.

Senior Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel said that the people should be encouraged to live in the villages by creating income and employment opportunities. He stressed on the need to continue the stalled development work in Tanahu.

Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security Krishna Kumar Shrestha said that the government was committed to attracting domestic and foreign investment, adding that the current government was committed to development and prosperity. Stating that he was committed to eradicate the problem of foreign employment, Minister Shrestha said that the government was serious about creating employment within the country.

The festival has organized with the objective of promoting economic, social development as well as local products, agriculture, religious, cultural, tourist sites, industry and trade, said Pavindra Kumar Shrestha, president of the Chamber. The festival will run till April 3 and is estimated to draw 500,000 spectators, leading to financial transaction worth Rs. 60 million.
