Govt rejects Transparency International Nepal Report
The Government of Nepal has rejected the Global Corruption Barometer Asia Report of the Transparency International Nepal.
In a press briefing at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Minister Parbat Gurung, also the Spokesperson of the government, said that the report was rejected by the government as it was prepared by being politically biased.
Minister Gurung argued that the contents stated in the report were ambiguous and contradictory in itself, adding that other global index has shown Nepal’s progress in good-governance while this report has put Nepal in the first rank in corruption index.
He said World Justice Project Survey Report in its Rule of Law Index 2020 has enlisted Nepal as the number one country in the good-governance improving list in South Asia.
Minister Gurung issuing a press release mentioned various reports that showed Nepal’s progress in good-governance and crime control. He mentioned that the report prepared on investment also shows that Nepal was on 110th rank in 2018 and was placed on 94th in 2019 by improving the investment-friendly environment.
According to Gurung, the report was prepared following a narrow survey methodology by interacting with 1,000 people via telephone calls adding that selection of the respondents was also not transparent and impartial.
Minister Gurung has also urged not to follow such a baseless report but to contribute to the nation’s development and prosperity.
