SC orders not to charge disadvantaged and low-income people on RDT

The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the government not to charge any cost to the people living under poverty line and those low-income abroad returnees while testing the coronavirus infection through RDT procedure.
A single bench of justice Tej Bahadur KC on Tuesday ordered not to charge RDT testing costs to protect weaker section people from the potential risks of coronavirus.
The apex court also stayed the implementation of Health Ministry directive in case of people below poverty line having annual income under Rs 270,000, people covertly entering home country en masse with risk of corona and low income workers coming en masse from third countries except India.
Earlier, the Ministry of Health and Population on May 15 had come with an interim directive allowing to charge up to 20 percent of the purchasing cost involved in RDT testing.
The apex court has summoned both the sides for discussion on May 31 with a response in writing.
